Today is the final day that we will be staying in Seattle.
We had a wonderful breakfast at a place named the “5 spot”. It was a lovely breakfast, but to be honest, the expense of general goods here is a little bit of a shock to a poor boy like me.
It isn’t exactly that things are exorbitant, but EVERYTHING is more expensive, and there tends to be more expense, if that makes any sense.
For instance, we stopped at a CVS to get some supplies for embarking tomorrow morning, which meant that I had to pay for parking…
Now, of course, what you really SHOULD do, (and what is extremely popular here, as evidenced by the individuals I have interacted with, etc.) is that automotive travel is a tertiary mode of transportation.
In that respect, it reminds me very much of a European city.
In any case, coming from the Chicagoland area, I can see the charm of this place, and also the fact that the fabric of the city itself lends to polarization of the working classes.
In any case, today, after breakfast, we went hiking and exploring at Discovery park. It was thoroughly enjoyable. The flora and fauna was spectacular. I got to taste a little bit of that fabled Pacific Northwest climate. The ferns and moss were beautiful.
What was even more beautiful was the delight that I got to experience through my Bride’s eyes. We had a tremendous time.
Tomorrow morning, we are heading for the Pier, where we will be embarking on the good ship Luminosa. I find the name of the vessel, in conjunction with certain aspects of our wedding symbology and ceremony to be quite poignant, and entirely serendipitous.
I will not be able to post anything on the ship, unless I do so via cellular when we dock at the various destinations we will be exploring along our way to Alaska. I may be able to do this, but honestly I have not idea if it will work out that way, so this may be the last entry for a bit.
I have a deep seated fear of the water, ever since I was a child. (Another story for another time) I am actually excited to turn this into a delight if I can.
In any case, Adventure calls!! We shall go forth together! And if it is my fate to feed the crabs with my bloated waterlogged corpse rather than feasting upon them, then so be it. Fuck fear!
